Burmite

Burmite is a variety of Amber found in Burma and named for this locality. It is from the Cretaceous Period and very first documented in Burma in 1836. Burmite is fluorescent and glows a beautiful blue under shortwave (SW) UV light.

Amber is just a resin that is fossil is a combination of hydrocarbons, resins, succinic acid, and oils. It is the resin that is fossilized of woods from about 30 million years back. For more information please see the Amber information page.

Distribution: Tanai, Hukawng Valley and Maingkwan, Myitkyina-Mogaung District, Kachin State, Burma (Myanmar).
