Group name for three very closely associated minerals: Orthoclase, Sanidine, and Microcline. These three feldspar minerals have equal properties which can be physical. They are all composed of the current weather which can be same but their crystal structure differs. It may also be impractical to tell apart one of those minerals from another without x-ray analysis. Because of the difficulty of determining the classification that is precise each one of these three minerals could be called “Potassium Feldspar” without further classification. Sanidine and Microcline are wrongly categorized as being a selection of Orthoclase in numerous guide guides, when, in reality, these are typically separate minerals.
The mineral Anorthoclase is usually also classified with the potassium feldspars.
Synonyms for potassium feldspar include:
- Potash Feldspar
- Alkali Feldspar
